Trebbiano Toscano

Also known as Ugni Blanc, Procanico, Albanella.

Trebbiano Toscano is the most widely planted member of the large, loosely related Trebbiano family of Italian white grapes. It is the same variety as Ugni Blanc, the base grape of French Cognac and Armagnac production, and is also known locally as Procanico and Albanella.

A high-yielding, high-acid white with a generally neutral flavor profile that can turn delicately herbal and lemony. It rarely stands as a wine's sole grape outside a handful of denominations, more often forming the workhorse base of blends — most prominently as the near-universal base grape of Tuscany's Vin Santo tradition, appearing in nearly every Vin Santo denomination in the region alongside Malvasia Bianca Lunga.
