Modicana Cow
A Sicilian cattle breed of centuries' standing, with a dark red coat running from wine-red to near black in the bulls. Mechanisation, modest milk and meat yields, and dairies giving up their own cheesemaking drove the decline: from tens of thousands in the 1960s to a fraction of that.
