History

Lungarotti is the name that put Umbrian wine on the map. Giorgio Lungarotti founded the modern winery in 1949 and almost single-handedly won recognition of Torgiano as a DOC in 1968 and Torgiano Rosso Riserva as a DOCG in 1990. He created the flagship Rubesco, a Sangiovese-based red, and its single-vineyard Riserva Vigna Monticchio. With his wife, art historian Maria Grazia Marchetti, he also founded the Wine Museum of Torgiano (MUVIT).
