History

Fattoria di Montechiari stands on an old military fortress at Montecarlo, near Lucca, where documents record wine since the 1300s. Moreno Panattoni and his wife Catherine Pirmez Panattoni restored the property, restructuring the vineyards in the late 1970s and bottling their own wine from 1982.

Across about twenty-three hectares of steep alluvial slopes, farmed organically since 2008, the estate works French varieties — Chardonnay, Semillon, Pinot Nero, Cabernet Franc and Merlot — with particular devotion to Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Sangiovese.
