History
Marchesi Antinori is one of the oldest wine families in the world, dating its business to 1385 and counting 26 generations of winemakers. In the 1970s the family reshaped Italian wine with the 'Super Tuscans': Tignanello, first made in 1971 as a Sangiovese aged in barrique with Cabernet, and Solaia, launched in 1978. Bottled as Toscana IGT rather than under the DOC rules of the day, they proved Tuscany could make world-class reds on its own terms. The family also produces benchmark Chianti Classico and, at Guado al Tasso, Bolgheri.
