History
Polvanera, founded in 2003 by Filippo Cassano at Gioia del Colle, reimagined Primitivo. Seeking wines that were full-bodied and rich but also fresh and mineral, unusual for Puglia, he farmed old alberello vines on the cooler high Murge, dug a cellar deep into the limestone, and forgoes oak entirely for a pure, low-intervention expression of the grape. The estate, named for its dark soils, is the reference for Gioia del Colle Primitivo.
