History

Cappellano is a legendary traditional house of Serralunga. Founded in 1870, its Giuseppe Cappellano invented Barolo Chinato, the quinine-infused Barolo digestivo, in the late 1800s. Teobaldo Cappellano, long grouped with Bartolo Mascarello and Giuseppe Rinaldi as the 'last of the Mohicans' of traditional Barolo, made two celebrated Barolos from the Otin Fiorin parcel: the Piè Rupestris from grafted vines and the rare Piè Franco from ungrafted ones, alongside the estate's famed Barolo Chinato.
