Pera Cocomerina
Cocomerina Pear

Cocomero is watermelon, and the name is about the colour: the flesh is pink, deepest at the centre of late-picked fruit. The pears are small and oval, green-skinned, 20 to 60 grams. They are aromatic and fragile, which makes them nearly impossible to sell fresh but excellent for jam and liqueur. Like most heirloom fruit they were grown for the household, so what is left is a scatter of trees.
