Lenticchia di Rascino

Rascino is a big karst valley in the Cicolano on the Abruzzo border at 1,300 metres, almost unpopulated and correspondingly intact: orchids, wolves, and two possible livelihoods, sheep or the growing of lentils, spelt and biancòla, a local wheat. What makes farming possible is a major spring, the same that feeds the Peschiera aqueduct and so much of Rome's water. The plateau has always been on the transhumance road down to the Roman campagna.
