History
Nittardi, on the border of Siena and Florence near Castellina in Chianti, began as a watchtower named 'Nectar Dei' as early as 1183. In the 16th century it belonged to Michelangelo Buonarroti, who while finishing the Sistine Chapel sent Nittardi wine to Rome as a gift to Pope Paul III.
Since 1981 the Canali-Femfert family has run the estate, and from that first vintage they launched an art project: every year artists create two works, one for the label and one for the wrapping paper of Casanuova di Nittardi, a tradition that reached its 40th year with the 2020 vintage.
The wines centre on Sangiovese Chianti Classico from the Vigna Doghessa at Castellina, alongside a Bordeaux-influenced Super Tuscan.
