History
Planeta was founded in 1995 by cousins Alessio and Santi Planeta with their uncle Diego, opening the Ulmo winery near Sambuca di Sicilia in the Menfi area, where Diego planted the Chardonnay that became emblematic of the family. Over the following decades they built estates across the island, from Cerasuolo di Vittoria in the southeast to Nero d'Avola at Noto and Carricante and Nerello Mascalese on Etna, making Planeta one of the great modern ambassadors of Sicilian wine.
