History
Sartarelli was founded in 1972 by Ferruccio Sartarelli, a baker who chose to champion the local Verdicchio rather than emigrate to Argentina. His daughter Donatella and her husband Patrizio built the estate into a Verdicchio specialist; in 1994 they created Balciana from late-harvested, partly botrytised fruit fermented dry, a wine that won top honours at the 1999 International Wine Challenge and put Verdicchio on the world stage.
