History

Il Calepino is a leading name of Valcalepio, the Bordeaux-influenced appellation of the Bergamo hills. Founded in 1972 by Angelo Plebani and named for the Renaissance friar-lexicographer known as 'il Calepino', it has made traditional-method sparkling wine since 1978 and is best known for its Valcalepio Rosso Riserva, a Merlot-Cabernet blend from the region's well-drained morainic soils.
