History
Montesissa is a small artisan estate in the Val Chero of the Colli Piacentini, at Case Biasini near Carpaneto Piacentino, among the oldest in the Piacenza hills and now in its fifth generation.
It was born in the mid-1800s with the first white-grape plantings, and is today led by Elisabetta Montesissa, who continues to make wine by hand as it always has been.
Alongside about 25,000 bottles a year from just four hectares of vineyard - Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Ortrugo, Trebbiano, Barbera and Bonarda - the family has revived near-forgotten grain varieties for its own flour and pasta.
