History

La Stoppa was founded in the late nineteenth century by the lawyer Giancarlo Ageno, who planted long-ageing varieties in the Val Trebbia hills of Piacenza. The Pantaleoni family bought it in 1973, and since 1991 Elena Pantaleoni, with winemaker Giulio Armani, has made it one of Italy's most admired natural estates, known for the skin-macerated white Ageno and the red Macchiona.
