Melone Purceddu di Alcamo
Alcamo purceddu melon
A winter melon of the Trapani country, sown in May and picked from June, whose distinguishing quality is how long it keeps: it is still good after Christmas. Traditionally the fruit was laid out on the house terraces or hung from the balconies to see out the autumn. Purceddu means suckling pig in dialect.
