History
Francesco Illy bought Podere Le Ripi at Montalcino in 1984 from a Sardinian shepherd and began making wine in 1999, converting to biodynamics in 2012 and building a whole 'agricultural organism' around the vines.
The estate farms 35 hectares, mostly Sangiovese, and is known for one of the world's densest vineyards and its single-vineyard Brunellos.
