History
Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 when Giovanni Neri, a grain merchant, bought the roughly 200-hectare Podere Casanova east of Montalcino for its potential to make great Brunello. The first bottled wine came in 1977 and the debut single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto (1981) was released in 1987 after six years' ageing. Under Giacomo Neri, who took over in 1991, the estate became a modern Brunello icon, its Tenuta Nuova and Cerretalto among the most sought-after bottlings of the appellation.
