History
Florio was founded in 1833 by Vincenzo Florio, son of a Calabrian grocer, who built his cellars on the Marsala coast between the English houses of Woodhouse and Ingham-Whitaker. Financing it from his trading empire, he broke the British monopoly on Marsala, and Florio remains the great historic name of Sicily's fortified wine, with long-aged Riserva and vintage bottlings.
