Marzemino

Red grapeTrentino and Veneto, Italy (historically rooted in the Treviso hills)
← Grapes

A soft, fruity Trentino red with dark berry and a floral note.

Its history in Veneto's own Treviso hills runs deep: Colli di Conegliano's disciplinare (Art. 9) cites the grape by name in the 1282 Statuti Coneglianesi, making it one of the oldest documented varieties in the region, and notes it was made famous by Mozart and Da Ponte's "Don Giovanni." It is the sole base (minimum 95%) of Colli di Conegliano's "Refrontolo"/"Refrontolo Passito" typology, and is excluded from varietal labeling in Trento province across several IGTs (Trevenezie, Vallagarina, Vigneti delle Dolomiti) so as not to overlap with its protected status as a Trentino DOC varietal wine there.
