Glera Lunga

A white grape distinct from the common Glera despite the shared name — ampelographic study once assumed the two varieties were closely related, but they were found to differ significantly both in vine morphology and in biomolecular structure, leading to Glera Lunga's separate admission to the National Vine Variety Register around 2000-2001. Medium, pyramidal, winged clusters carry uniform berries that turn deep yellow at maturity.

It is one of eight complementary varieties permitted for up to 15% of the blend in Prosecco DOC's still, spumante and frizzante typologies (though excluded from the spumante rosé typology), alongside varieties like Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana and Perera. It is almost unknown around Conegliano but reasonably widespread in the Valdobbiadene municipality and around Col San Martino/Farra di Soligo. On its own it gives a wine of good structure and body with lively acidity, showing vegetal and spicy notes.
