Fiano

Fiano is an ancient white Italian wine grape of Campania in the south, where more than half its plantings lie, with significant amounts in Puglia and Sicily. It is one of southern Italy's most respected whites, valued for a steely, mineral character and a real capacity to age — unusual for a warm-climate white.

It is very versatile, giving wines that range from light to full-bodied, and it does best on volcanic soils. Typical aromas are hazelnut, green apple, pear, and honey. Its benchmark is the Fiano di Avellino DOCG in the hills of Irpinia; in the Marche it appears only as one of the permitted monovarietal specifications of the regional Marche IGT.
