Bellone

Also known as Cacchione, Uva Pane, Pantastico.

Bellone is an ancient white wine grape native to Lazio, cultivated especially in the coastal areas south of Rome (around Anzio and Nettuno, where it is known as Cacchione) and in the Castelli Romani and Cori hills. It is a very old variety often identified with the vines praised by Pliny the Elder, and it has long been a component of the region's traditional white blends as well as, increasingly, a varietal wine in its own right.

Bellone gives full-bodied, soft whites with moderate acidity, a golden hue and aromas of ripe orchard fruit, and it is prized for its versatility across dry, sweet and sparkling styles. It appears as a named varietal or complementary grape in several Lazio denominations.
