History
The Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, the mother house of the Olivetan Benedictines founded in 1313 in the Crete Senesi, has long farmed the land of the medieval 'grance' (fortified granges).
Its agricultural company, led by a Benedictine monk, heads the young Grance Senesi DOC (2010), the wine of the Siena grange country.
