History

Leone de Castris is one of Salento's historic estates, with roots at Salice Salentino going back to 1665. Its place in Italian wine history was sealed in 1943 with Five Roses, the first rosé ever bottled and sold in Italy, created from Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera when an American general requested a large supply of rosé with an American-sounding name. The estate remains a benchmark for Salice Salentino and Salento rosato.
