History

Nino Negri was founded in 1897 when Nino Negri moved to Chiuro, in the heart of the Valtellina, to make wine from the mountain-grown Nebbiolo known locally as Chiavennasca. Headquartered in the medieval Castello Quadrio, it became the reference producer of the alpine valley. Its specialty is Sfursat (Sforzato), made from grapes dried for about 100 days in the cool alpine air; the flagship 5 Stelle Sfursat, from the best grapes in the best years, is one of Italy's great dried-grape reds.
