Trebbiano

Also known as Trebbiano Toscano, Ugni Blanc (France), Procanico.

Trebbiano is the name of a large family of white grapes among the most widely planted in Italy, of which Trebbiano Toscano (known as Procanico in Lazio and Tuscany, and as Ugni Blanc in France) is the most common. Several distinct Trebbiani are grown across Italy, and in Lazio the group underpins many of the traditional Castelli Romani and Tuscia whites, usually as a fresh, high-acid counterpoint to Malvasia.

Trebbiano Toscano is prized for high yields and bracing acidity, giving light-bodied, neutral, crisp whites; it is also a base for distillation. As a group Trebbiano is a permitted or required white across a broad range of Lazio denominations.
