Bombino Nero

Bombino Nero is a black-skinned Puglian grape especially associated with the Castel del Monte area on the Murge plateau, where it is prized above all for rosato. Its bunches ripen unevenly, which makes it awkward for deep reds but ideal for fresh, fragrant pink wines — so much so that the Castel del Monte Bombino Nero rosato was elevated to its own DOCG.

Bombino Nero gives lightly colored, fresh reds and, more typically, vivid dry rosati with red-berry and floral character and lively acidity. It is a distinct variety, not related to the white Bombino Bianco despite the shared name.
