History

The Portinari family's vineyards at Brognoligo, in the Soave Classico hills, date to the early 1900s, though for decades they were farmed by others. In the early 1980s Umberto Portinari decided to work them himself, and in 1990 he founded the winery.

The tiny estate — just four hectares — comprises two plots: Ronchetto, on volcanic soil with vines planted in 1960, source of a Soave Superiore, and Albare, planted in 1987.

Certified organic, and now joined by Umberto's children Maria and Silvio, Portinari is a benchmark small Soave grower.
