History

Pieropan, in the town of Soave in the Verona hills, is the historic reference estate of the Soave appellation. The Pieropan family has long bottled its own wine here, and Leonildo 'Nino' Pieropan — who led the estate for decades until his death in 2018 — did more than anyone to establish Soave as a serious, terroir-driven white and to pioneer its single-vineyard (cru) bottlings.

The estate, now run by Nino's sons Andrea and Dario, farms Garganega and the local Trebbiano di Soave on volcanic and limestone soils in the Soave Classico. The single-vineyard 'Calvarino' (from volcanic basalt) and 'La Rocca' (from limestone, and 100% Garganega) are benchmarks of what Soave can be.

Alongside the crus, Pieropan makes the classic Soave Classico and the sweet Recioto di Soave 'Le Colombare' — a range that defines the appellation's quality ceiling.
