History
Novaia sits on a hill above the Marano valley in the high Valpolicella Classica. The Vaona family moved to the 15th-century villa around 1700 and grew into one of the valley's most important landowning families through the 1800s.
Commercial winemaking began in earnest under Paolo Vaona in the late 19th century — he won a Grand Prix and gold medal at a Verona fair in 1908 — and the family dates its commercial production to around 1918, four generations ago.
The estate is now run by Cesare and GiamPaolo Vaona with their children Cristina and Marcello, making the classic Valpolicella wines: Valpolicella, Ripasso, Recioto and Amarone.
