History
The Poggi family has farmed at Cavaion Veronese, east of Lake Garda, since 1881. When relatives divided the property in the 1980s, Matilde Poggi chose to build her own winery rather than sell her grapes; Le Fraghe — dialect for wild strawberries — gave its first harvest in 1984, when she was 22.
Certified organic since 2009 in the vineyard and 2012 in the cellar, the estate farms 28 hectares in Cavaion Veronese and Affi.
Its heart is Bardolino Classico and Bardolino Chiaretto from Corvina and Rondinella; Matilde Poggi is president of Italy's independent-growers federation (FIVI).
