History
Bolla was founded in 1883 in the town of Soave, east of Verona, where Abele Bolla ran an inn; his son Alberto began selling the local white wine to other taverns, and the family business grew steadily around the turn of the century.
In 1931 Alberto opened a winery at Pedemonte, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica zone, to make quality reds — Recioto, Valpolicella and later Amarone — alongside the house's well-known Soave. In 1953 Bolla became one of the first producers to release Amarone della Valpolicella commercially, helping establish it as a benchmark style.
Bolla became one of Italy's most recognised export brands; Gruppo Italiano Vini took part ownership in 2006 and full ownership in 2009.
