History
Roberto Anselmi took over his family's estate in the Soave Classico hills around Monteforte d'Alpone in the late 1970s and set about raising quality, becoming virtually the only producer in the zone to make single-vineyard 'cru' whites from Garganega, most famously Capitel Foscarino.
In the 1990s Anselmi grew frustrated with a Soave appellation he felt was being devalued by high-volume valley-floor bottlings, and from the 1999 vintage he declassified his wines to the broader Veneto IGT rather than use the Soave DOC — a landmark act of protest in Italian wine.
His hillside whites — San Vincenzo, Capitel Foscarino and Capitel Croce — are all Garganega-based and now carry the Veneto IGT label.
