History
La Palazzola takes its name from a hill crowned by the ruins of a medieval tower at Stroncone, near Terni, where the family estate was founded in 1922.
Stefano Grilli, who gave up a career as an engineer to run the inherited estate, turned a district little known for viticulture into one of Umbria's most respected wineries, working with oenologist Riccardo Cotarella.
Across some 28 organically farmed hectares he grows both natives and acclimatised international varieties - Pinot Nero, Cabernet, Merlot, Riesling and Sauvignon - and has made La Palazzola a national reference for Metodo Classico sparkling wine and for late-harvest sweet wines.
