History
The de Cles are an ancient noble family of the Val di Non (Anaunia) who already held vineyards around Castel Cles in the 14th century; their kinsman Bernardo de Cles, born at the castle in 1485, became Prince-Bishop of Trento and brought a love of wine to the Castello del Buonconsiglio.
The Azienda Agricola Barone de Cles took shape in the 1950s, heir to that centuries-old tradition, and works out of the historic Cantina Scari in the centre of Mezzolombardo, active since 1759.
The family - brothers Michele, Guido and Leonardo with the next generation, Margherita and Giorgio - farms about 40 hectares of the Piana Rotaliana, centred on Teroldego alongside Lagrein, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Traminer.
