History
Villa Le Prata is built around a villa raised in 1860 as the hunting lodge of Count de' Vecchi, later the country house of the Bishop of Montalcino. In 1980 Massimo Losappio, chief surgeon at Montalcino hospital, and his wife Marialuce, a philosophy teacher, bought it and planted the first hectare of vineyard.
The estate has long been run by the women of the family — first Marialuce and Anna Vittoria, then from 1996 their daughter Benedetta — and since 2014 by Anna Vittoria and Bernardo Losappio.
Beyond the vineyards near the villa, the family planted further sites in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate area, making Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino.
