History

Vignamaggio, in the hills of Greve in Chianti, was built by the Gherardini family at the start of the 15th century and has been a working wine farm since 1404, making it one of the oldest continuously producing estates in Tuscany.

The estate is bound up with the legend of the Mona Lisa: Lisa Gherardini, the model for Leonardo's portrait, belonged to the family associated with Vignamaggio, and the villa's flagship wine is named 'Monna Lisa' in her honour.

Today the historic estate, with around 160 hectares including its Chianti Classico vineyards, continues to make Sangiovese-based Chianti Classico and Toscana IGT wines.
