History

Tenuta di Ghizzano at Peccioli has belonged to the Venerosi Pesciolini family since 1370 - one of the oldest estates in Tuscany - a dynasty tracing to the 8th century and an ancestor, Nambrot, said to be a knight of Charlemagne.

In the 1980s Pierfranco Venerosi Pesciolini invested in vineyard and cellar to raise quality, and in 1985 released 'Veneroso', named for the ancestor Veneroso Venerosi who first devoted himself entirely to the estate.

Now led by Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini, the estate turned biodynamic with Demeter certification in 2018; its olives, exported to Provence since the 1300s, are still known there as 'les picholines' after Peccioli.
