History
Wine has been produced at Artimino since Granduca Ferdinando I de' Medici built the villa La Ferdinanda as a hunting residence in 1596; Carmignano's practice of blending Cabernet alongside Sangiovese is traced to this estate, later codified by Cosimo III de' Medici's 1716 decree establishing the Carmignano production zone.
Since 1989 the villa and estate have belonged to the Olmo family, following the acquisition by former professional cyclist Giuseppe Olmo, and the property continues to bottle Carmignano DOCG and Barco Reale under the Tenuta di Artimino name.
