History

The Cosimi family's original Montalcino estate was founded in 1971, when Roberto Cosimi and his father Bramante bought an uninhabited farm and planted Sangiovese. Roberto died in 1984.

In 2003 his son Renzo returned to Montalcino and claimed his half of the estate, moving into the old farmhouse and cellar and naming his winery Poggio dell'Aquila; his brother Rodolfo kept the Il Poggiolo name.

About two kilometres from Montalcino, the 53-hectare estate makes Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino from ten hectares of Sangiovese Grosso.
