History
In 1999 the Veneto engineer Massimo Piccin, aged 30, left his career and bought an 8-hectare estate at 'Scopaio' in Bolgheri, giving the project the name Sapaio.
Planting began in 2000 and he relocated from Veneto in 2002; the vineyards grew to 27 hectares.
The estate makes the flagship Sapaio and the second wine Volpolo, both Cabernet-based Bolgheri reds.
