History

Pietroso was founded in 1970 by Domenico Berni, nicknamed 'Delfo', a man devoted to his land who set out to make limited quantities of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino in the traditional style; the first Pietroso Brunello was the 1978 vintage.

The estate's stony ground, not far from Montalcino's old walls, has been documented for viticulture since 1363, when it appears as 'Contrada El Petroso'.

Today Domenico's grandson Gianni Pignattai runs the estate with his son Andrea and the oenologist Alessandro Dondi.
