History
The Padelletti are one of the oldest families of Montalcino, with roots to the 13th century. The name appears in 1529 with Giovanni Padelletti, an architect charged with defending part of the town's walls; after the Medici era his descendants returned in 1572 to reclaim the family land, held by a Padelletti ever since.
The family have been winemakers since the late 16th century — around 1571 — across some 25 generations, and were among the families that, with Biondi Santi, pushed for Montalcino's recognition and founded the region's first cooperative in 1925.
Today Claudia Susanna Padelletti, the last to carry the name, runs the estate with her son Silvano and daughter Viviana, making Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino.
