History

Marchesi Pancrazi is centred on the Villa di Bagnolo, built in the 1500s by the Florentine Strozzi princes and inherited by the Pancrazi family in 1965, on the slopes of Monte Ferrato between Prato and Pistoia.

The estate owes its identity to a happy accident: when Vittorio Pancrazi replanted the vineyards, a nursery error delivered Pinot Nero vines instead of Sangiovese.

Only in the 1980s did oenologist Nicolò D'Afflitto recognise the mistake and the potential of the terroir, and from 1989 the estate committed exclusively to Pinot Nero, becoming one of Tuscany's most singular Burgundian-variety producers.
