History
Macea is a small natural-wine estate founded in 2000 by the Barsanti family at Borgo a Mozzano, in the Serchio Valley between the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines north of Lucca.
It farms just over one and a half hectares split across two hills - one of galestro planted to Sauvignon and Pinot Nero, the other rocky and sandy with Pinot Grigio and other vines - producing only around 6,000 bottles a year.
The Barsanti brothers were among the founders of the LuccaBioDinamica network, launched in 2016 and now grouping fourteen growers across the Lucca area; Cipriano Barsanti also co-founded a second estate, Camiliano, in Capannori.
