History
Le Macioche was bought and renovated in the 1980s — from 1985 by Matilde Zecca and Achille Mazzocchi — as a small Brunello estate. Its name derives from the 'Macioca', the strawberry tree that grows in the surrounding woods.
The estate changed hands again in 2014, to three entrepreneurs from Verona, and at the start of the 2017 harvest was acquired by the Cotarella family, the noted Umbrian wine family behind Falesco.
Now run by the Cotarella daughters Dominga, Marta and Enrica, Le Macioche makes Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino and gained full organic certification from the 2018 vintage.
