History
La Selva was founded in 1980 by Karl Egger, one of the pioneers of European organic farming, who left Munich for southern Tuscany and bought seven hectares in the Maremma; the name comes from a seventeenth-century Spanish granary on the property. In 1984 it became the first non-German estate to gain Naturland organic certification.
A dedicated winery was built near Magliano in Toscana in 2003, and the estate today spans some 830 hectares — organic from the start — with about 35 hectares of vineyard making around 210,000 bottles a year, chiefly Morellino di Scansano and Maremma wines. Karl Egger handed the reins to Christian Stivaletti in 2015.
