History
The Zannoni family reached Montalcino when Giovanni Zannoni, a cattle rancher, left Romagna in 1870. In 1907 his son Angiolino arrived at the La Fortuna farm — four hectares said to have been won at a card table, giving the estate its lucky name.
Gino Zannoni and his son Gioberto bought the farm outright in 1965 and planted specialised Brunello vineyards; the first Rosso di Montalcino came in 1971 and the first Brunello in 1974.
Now the fifth and sixth generations — Angelo and Romina Zannoni with their mother Felicetta — run the 41-hectare estate, 18 of it vineyard.
