History
La Fornace takes its name from a brick furnace dating to 1490. After a life as a church sharecropper, the Giannetti grandfather Giuseppe bought the kiln in 1964, and in 1975 Franco and Germana Giannetti acquired adjacent land and planted vineyards.
The fruit's quality gave rise to their first Rosso di Montalcino in 1987 and first Brunello in 1988, starting with just 1,000 bottles of each.
In 1998 Franco and Germana handed the reins to their son Fabio; the estate now farms about 4.5 hectares on the Montalcino hill.
